Barr. Tanko Kyen-Emoh Danjuma Ambi-Usi Jr., Esq. is the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the Taraba South Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections. A legal practitioner, corporate governance professional, public policy analyst, and legislative drafting enthusiast, he has built a reputation as one of the emerging voices advocating constitutional governance, institutional reform, and sustainable development in Nigeria.
His decision to seek election into the Senate is anchored on what he describes as a “Southern Taraba Renewal Agenda”—a legislative blueprint that places emphasis on effective lawmaking, constitutional governance, economic transformation, and inclusive representation. Unlike conventional political manifestos that focus largely on empowerment programmes, Barr. Tanko argues that enduring development can only be achieved through sound legislation, strong institutions, strategic oversight, and policies that address the root causes of poverty and underdevelopment.
Born and raised in Taraba State, Barr. Tanko began his educational journey at Jenkabi Nursery and Primary School, Wukari, before proceeding to the prestigious Federal Government College, Wukari, where he obtained his Senior Secondary School Certificate. He later studied Law at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, earning a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree before completing his professional legal training at the Nigerian Law School. Upon his call to the Nigerian Bar, he became a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, licensed to practise law throughout the Federation.
His legal career has exposed him to diverse areas of practice, including litigation, corporate advisory, commercial transactions, labour law, contract negotiation, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance, and property law. Between 2022 and 2026, he served as Associate Counsel at T.U. Danjuma & Co., where he advised clients on complex legal and commercial matters while strengthening his expertise in advocacy and corporate practice.
Beyond legal practice, Barr. Tanko has accumulated considerable experience in corporate governance. He served as Legal Adviser and Company Secretary to Sansheng Nigeria Limited, SKECC, and Starant Mining Limited, where he provided legal guidance on corporate governance, statutory compliance, contract management, labour relations, board administration, and regulatory affairs within Nigeria’s construction and mining sectors. These experiences have given him practical insight into investment, infrastructure development, and the legal frameworks governing economic growth.
Barr. Tanko is also widely recognised as a public affairs commentator and policy advocate. Over the years, he has written extensively on constitutional law, judicial independence, fiscal federalism, local government autonomy, legislative reform, economic development, public administration, and institutional accountability. Through articles and public commentary, he has consistently advocated evidence-based policymaking, transparency, accountability, and reforms aimed at strengthening democratic institutions and improving governance across Nigeria.
His legislative philosophy is built on a simple but far-reaching principle: good laws produce good governance, and good governance produces prosperity. He believes representation should extend beyond the distribution of empowerment items to creating lasting institutions, attracting federal investments, and enacting legislation capable of transforming communities for generations.
As outlined in his Southern Taraba Renewal Agenda, Barr. Tanko intends to champion constitutional reforms that strengthen local government autonomy, deepen fiscal federalism, improve judicial independence, enhance electoral integrity, modernise public administration, and promote digital governance. He also plans to sponsor legislation that improves transparency in public finance and ensures greater accountability in the management of public resources.
Agriculture, mining, and rural economic development occupy central positions in his legislative agenda. He proposes laws that would promote mechanised farming, irrigation, agricultural insurance, agro-processing industries, commodity exchanges, climate-smart agriculture, rural storage facilities, and improved access to agricultural financing. Recognising the vast mineral wealth of Taraba South, he also advocates stronger mining regulations that protect host communities, encourage responsible investment, promote local content, and ensure environmental sustainability.
Infrastructure development also forms a major pillar of his policy agenda. He has pledged to aggressively pursue the rehabilitation of strategic federal roads, including the Wukari–Ibi–Shendam Highway, the Takum–Ussa–Lissam–Cameroon Border Road, the Donga–Ananum–Mararaba Road, and the completion of the Bridge across the River Benue at Ibi. He also advocates expanded rural electrification, renewable energy projects, broadband infrastructure, irrigation systems, erosion control programmes, and improved water supply across Taraba South.
In education and healthcare, Barr. Tanko proposes sustained legislative support for improved school infrastructure, scholarships, vocational education, STEM programmes, ICT integration, teacher development, primary healthcare, maternal and child health, mental healthcare, universal health coverage, and emergency medical services. He has also pledged to sponsor legislation strengthening the statutory framework of the Federal University Wukari and the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Wukari, while advocating increased federal funding to transform both institutions into nationally recognised centres of excellence.
Youth development, entrepreneurship, digital innovation, sports, and the creative economy are also priorities in his legislative vision. He advocates greater opportunities for women, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and other vulnerable groups through financial inclusion, business support, equal opportunities, and increased participation in governance.
Barr. Tanko has also pledged to make representation more transparent and accessible by holding quarterly town hall meetings, publishing annual legislative performance reports, maintaining functional constituency offices, and establishing a Legislative Research and Constituency Service Office to promote evidence-based representation and continuous engagement with constituents.
Although he is seeking elective office for the first time, supporters argue that his legal scholarship, corporate governance experience, policy expertise, and legislative knowledge provide him with a solid foundation for effective representation in the Senate. They believe his understanding of constitutional law, governance, and public policy positions him to contribute meaningfully to national legislation and oversight responsibilities.
As the APGA candidate for Taraba South Senatorial District, Barr. Tanko Kyen-Emoh Danjuma Ambi-Usi Jr. presents himself as a candidate committed to constitutional democracy, institutional reform, accountable governance, and sustainable development. Through his Southern Taraba Renewal Agenda, he offers voters a vision centred on effective legislation, stronger institutions, economic transformation, and inclusive representation, with the goal of positioning Taraba South for long-term prosperity within Nigeria’s democratic framework.
