A Charge I Will Never Forget:Prof Ojo Sunday Fayomi

As I prepare to resume as the Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Greenland University, Jalingo, Taraba State, I had the privilege of attending the send-forth ceremony in honour of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jeremiah Oludele Ojediran, and the outgoing Bursar, Mr. Sina Adepoju, of Bells University of Technology.

The occasion was made even more memorable by the presence of the Promoter of Bells University of Technology and former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, PhD, who commissioned landmark projects on the campus.

I have always preferred to work quietly behind the scenes, letting my work speak louder than my presence. Yet, I have learned that when God ordains a purpose, destiny has a way of bringing it into the light. To my pleasant surprise, I was introduced to Chief Obasanjo as the Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Greenland University.

A defining moment came when Chief Obasanjo remarked that Professor Jeremiah Oludele Ojediran had “produced his kind,” and charged me to go and replicate the excellence, discipline, integrity, and transformational leadership I had learned under my leader. Those words were both humbling and inspiring, and I receive them as a sacred responsibility. That singular moment also affirmed that Bells University of Technology has truly come of age by raising leaders who are now entrusted with leading other universities. I am deeply grateful to God for the privilege of being mentored by Professor Ojediran and for the confidence expressed in me by Chief Obasanjo.

As I begin this new chapter, I carry with me the values of excellence, integrity, innovation, and service that Bells University of Technology has instilled in me. By God’s grace, I am committed to replicating this legacy and building an institution that will positively impact generations.

My sincere appreciation goes to Professor Jeremiah Oludele Ojediran for his exceptional guidance, Mr. Sina Adepoju for his exemplary service to Bells University of Technology, and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo for his fatherly encouragement and inspiring charge. I remain grateful for the privilege of learning from great leaders and, by God’s grace, mentoring others.

“The greatest legacy of a leader is not the buildings he leaves behind, but the leaders he raises.”
