Mambilla: NewsNexus Calls for Peace, Unity and Responsible Reporting

By Abraham Maina Joda

JALINGO — NewsNexus Media has called on the people of Sardauna Local Government Area and Taraba State at large to unite in the interest of peace and work collectively with the Taraba State Government, Sardauna Local Government Council, security agencies, traditional institutions and other relevant stakeholders to restore normalcy to the Mambilla Plateau.

The call follows renewed reports of violence and tension in parts of Sardauna LGA, including Mbamnga, Mbara and Geroji, where authorities have imposed a 24-hour curfew amid reports of deaths, injuries and destruction of property.

NewsNexus Media said the immediate priority should be the protection of human lives, restoration of security and prevention of further escalation, rather than political, ethnic or partisan arguments surrounding the crisis.

Politics Must Not Overshadow Humanity

NewsNexus believes the current situation should not become another avenue for political confrontation.

While government actions and the performance of public institutions can and should be subjected to legitimate scrutiny, the protection of human lives must remain the overriding priority.

All political actors, community leaders and citizens are therefore urged to put aside partisan interests and cooperate with the Taraba State Government, Sardauna Local Government Council, security agencies and traditional authorities in efforts to restore peace.

The people of Sardauna and Taraba State share a common interest in ensuring that the crisis does not spread or develop into a wider cycle of retaliation.

A Call for Cooperation

NewsNexus Media calls for closer cooperation among:

  • The Taraba State Government;
  • Sardauna Local Government Council;
  • Security and intelligence agencies;
  • Traditional rulers and community leaders;
  • Religious leaders;
  • Youth and women organisations;
  • Farmers’ and herders’ representatives; and
  • Civil society and humanitarian organisations.

Such cooperation should focus on protecting vulnerable communities, identifying immediate security threats, facilitating dialogue, supporting affected persons and addressing underlying issues capable of triggering further conflict.

Responsible Reporting Is Essential

NewsNexus Media also appeals to journalists, bloggers, social-media administrators and members of the public to exercise maximum responsibility in reporting the crisis.

Reports of killings and attacks are highly sensitive. Unverified casualty figures, unconfirmed allegations, old photographs or videos presented as current events, fabricated statements and inflammatory materials can aggravate an already volatile situation.

Everyone is therefore urged to verify information before publishing or forwarding it.

NewsNexus Media will not support the publication or circulation of fake news, deliberately misleading information, hate speech or materials capable of inciting violence against any community.

At the same time, responsible reporting does not mean suppressing legitimate information. It means ensuring that information reaching the public is accurate, properly sourced, adequately contextualised and presented without unnecessary provocation.

Taraba Must Stand Together

The Mambilla Plateau is an integral part of Taraba State, and its security is a shared responsibility and concern of every Taraban.

At this critical moment, Sardauna needs peace, not further division; cooperation, not confrontation; verified information, not rumours; and justice, not revenge.

NewsNexus Media therefore calls on all residents of Sardauna and Taraba State to reject retaliation and support every genuine effort aimed at restoring peace and rebuilding trust among affected communities.

No political interest is greater than a human life.

The immediate task before everyone is clear: protect lives, restore peace, support affected communities and work together to ensure that the Mambilla Plateau does not descend into another cycle of violence.
