TARABA GOVERNMENT INTERVENES IN ALLEGED SEXUAL ABUSE OF MINOR

The Taraba State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, has intervened in the reported case involving allegations of sexual abuse and exploitation of a minor in the State.

Following the Ministry’s intervention the woman allegedly connected to the case has been arrested, arraigned before a Magistrate Court and remanded at the correctional facility in Jalingo, while investigations continue.

The Ministry has also alerted and formally informed the appropriate authorities of the Nigerian Army regarding the reported involvement of a serving military officer, for necessary action within their jurisdiction.

The Ministry, in collaboration with he National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Taraba State Chapter and other relevant security, justice and child-protection agencies, is committed to ensuring the safety, protection and welfare of the child and ensuring that the matter is thoroughly investigated in accordance with the law.

The Ministry appeals to the public and media to protect the identity and privacy of the minor, who is a vulnerable child and alleged victim of abuse.
