Taraba: FCFN lauds Kefas’ recognition of fisheries dev.

OKERAFOR ATHANATIUS, JALINGO.
The National President of Fisheries Cooperative Federation of Nigeria (FCFN), has commended the Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas for recognizing the activities of FCFN in the State.
The acting National President FCFN Mashi Gabriel Sani, made the commendation during a Media briefing held this Friday at Camp Lavet Hotel in Jalingo, the State capital.
Mashi Gabriel Sani who doubles as
the National Coordinator,  National Fisheries and Aquaculture Value Chain Database Capture Programme (NFAVCDCP), said the association is commending Governor Kefas owing to the Governor’s commitment to the activities of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development as a Sector.
He described Fisheries and Aquaculture Development as a Sector capable of creating thousands of jobs and reducing unemployment in the State.
Mashi further disclosed that the association’s show of happiness that led to the high level of commendation accorded to the Governor is very vital owing to the natural resources endowed in the State that are too numerous to mention.
”I am here today on behalf of FCFN and the fisheries and aquaculture community in Taraba State to express our profound appreciation to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Taraba State”
“This declaration is significant because Taraba is naturally endowed with rivers, lakes, dams and wetlands, yet these resources have not been adequately developed to their full economic potential”, he said.
According to him, for many years, fisheries and aquaculture have received insufficient attention and investment, adding that fish farmers, fisher folk, processors, traders, women and young people continue to face challenges including the high cost of feed, inadequate fingerlings, limited access to finance, poor processing and cold-chain infrastructure, weak extension services and limited market opportunities.
Welcoming the governor’s pledge and indication that, from 2027, the State will develop strategic measures to harness its aquatic resources for fisheries, food security, processing, employment and community livelihoods, Mashi
believed that the issues of poor Fisheries production must change.
“Since the governor has indicated his love and support for the a association’s activities, we have no other option that to support his re-election bid come 2027”,
”At the Federal level, there is also a new opportunity. The Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy has constituted a Technical Committee on Accelerating Fish Production in Nigeria, aimed at identifying practical measures to increase fish production, strengthen the value chain and create employment”,
”I am particularly honoured to serve as a member of that Federal Technical Committee as a son of Taraba State and as Ag. National President of FCFN”, he added.
