KEFAS EDUCATION REVOLUTION: SCIENCE SCHOOL JALINGO GETS MODERN LIBRARY, LABORATORIES, ICT CENTRE

24-hour electricity,ICT Centre and water supply to transform learning environment — Hon. Chris Nelson Dimas

The ongoing renovation of Government Science Secondary School, Jalingo, is set to transform the school into a more modern and conducive learning environment, with the project providing facilities designed to strengthen science, technology and research education.

The Governor’s Special Adviser on Policy and Strategic Communications, Hon. Chris Nelson Dimas, disclosed this while speaking to NewsNexus, describing the project as part of Governor Agbu Kefas’ broader commitment to improving the quality of education and learning environments across Taraba State.

According to Dimas, the transformation of the school will include a modern library, laboratories, an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre, 24-hour electricity and water supply.

He said the facilities are expected to significantly expand the opportunities available to students, particularly in science practicals, digital learning, research and independent study.

FROM THEORY TO PRACTICAL SCIENCE

Dimas said the provision of modern laboratories is particularly important for a school established to promote science education.

With properly equipped laboratories, students will have greater opportunities to conduct practical exercises and apply classroom theories to real-world scientific experiments.

The improved facilities are also expected to give teachers better tools to demonstrate scientific concepts and adopt more practical approaches to teaching.

ICT CENTRE FOR DIGITAL LEARNING

The planned ICT centre is another major component of the transformation.

Dimas said the facility will expose students to digital tools and technology-based learning, helping them develop skills increasingly required in higher education and the modern workplace.

For students, access to ICT facilities can provide opportunities to develop digital literacy, conduct research and engage with educational resources beyond the traditional classroom.

MODERN LIBRARY TO SUPPORT RESEARCH

The provision of a modern library is also expected to strengthen the academic environment of the school.

Beyond serving as a place for reading, the facility will provide students with an environment for research, independent study and deeper engagement with their academic subjects.

Dimas said the combination of improved library, laboratory and ICT facilities is intended to create a learning environment where students can develop academically and practically.

24-HOUR ELECTRICITY AND WATER SUPPLY

According to the Special Adviser, the provision of 24-hour electricity and water supply will further enhance the daily operation of the school.

Reliable electricity will support the use of ICT equipment, laboratory facilities and other educational infrastructure, while a dependable water supply will contribute to a healthier and more functional school environment.

Together, the basic amenities and educational facilities are expected to provide students and teachers with more stable conditions for learning and teaching.

STUDENTS WELCOME THE TRANSFORMATION

NewsNexus also spoke with some students of the school, who expressed excitement about the ongoing renovation and the facilities being provided.

The students said the upgraded school environment would give them greater opportunities to participate in science practicals, use ICT facilities and undertake research activities.

Some of them said the development would strengthen their preparation for higher education, particularly in science and technology-related fields.

They also expressed hope that the practical knowledge and digital skills acquired through the improved facilities would help them compete with their contemporaries elsewhere.

BRINGING OUT THE BEST IN TEACHERS AND STUDENTS

Dimas stressed that the transformation is not only about improving the physical appearance of the school.

He said the objective is to provide an environment that enables both teachers and students to perform at their best.

With functional laboratories, modern teaching resources, ICT facilities, a library, electricity and water, teachers will have more tools with which to deliver practical and effective lessons.

Students, on the other hand, will have greater opportunities to learn through practical experiences, research and technology.

PART OF A BROADER EDUCATION VISION

Dimas said the Science School project should be viewed as part of the broader education policy of the Kefas administration, which seeks to provide free and quality education while reducing the number of out-of-school children in Taraba to zero.

He said the administration’s objective is to ensure that children are not denied educational opportunities because of financial burdens on their parents.

The transformation of Government Science Secondary School, Jalingo, therefore represents an investment not only in infrastructure but also in the educational opportunities available to Taraba’s young people.

MORE THAN A RENOVATION

The significance of the project ultimately lies in what the new facilities will enable.

A modern library can promote research and reading. Functional laboratories can take science beyond theory. An ICT centre can strengthen digital skills. Reliable electricity can support modern educational equipment, while water supply can provide essential support for the school community.

As work progresses, effective completion, maintenance and utilisation of these facilities will be important to ensuring that the intended benefits reach students and teachers.

For Government Science Secondary School, Jalingo, the transformation represents an opportunity to create a learning environment better suited to the demands of modern education.

For Taraba, it is an investment in the scientific, technological and intellectual development of the next generation.
